La fin du monde filmée par l’Ange N-D. By Blaise Cendrars. Unpaginated. Illustrated with 22 pochoirs, 6 with line-block reproductions of ink drawings. Folio, 318 x 252, bound in publisher’s illustrated wrappers. Paris: Editions de la Sirene, 1919.
First Edition, one of 1200 copies. The quintessence of modernity, with Leger’s striking imagery intertwined with Cendrars ‘film script’. Robert Flynn Johnson rightly declares in Artists’ Books in the Modern Era 1870-2000 “It was the most beautiful and accessible French artist’s book of its era…a bibliophilic masterpiece”. Some marginal discoloration to the cover, overall a fresh fine copy, with lettering on the spine fully intact and legible, which often is not the case.
A Century of Artists Books 120. Johnson, p. 78. Andel, Avant-Garde Page Design 98-99.
