Marcel DUCHAMP

Marcel DUCHAMP

Cahiers D’Art N°1/2 de 1936.  ‘coeurs volant’.  [4], 68 pp.  With rotor-relief of "Verse de Bohême", mounted on page 35.  Folio, 315 x 245 mm, bound in publisher’s wrappers with Duchamp’s image of two intertwined hearts.  In a new cloth box.  Paris: Éditions Cahiers d'Art, 1936.

An unusually fine copy of one the rarest and most celebrated issues of Cahiers D’Art.  The cover by Duchamp is based on one of his collages composed of three hearts.  The image feels as though it’s shimmering, thus the aptly titled article on Duchamp’s optical works, Coeurs Volants (fluttering hearts) by Gabrielle Buffet-Picabia.  Very rare in this condition.

Schwarz, No. 446.
