Marcel DUCHAMP

Rrose Sélavy.   [16] pp. Small 8vo., 160 x 115 mm, bound in publisher’s tan printed wrappers. Paris: G.L.M., 1939.  WITH:

CARROLL, Lewis.  La Canne du Destin.  Translated by André Bay.  [36] pp.  Small 8vo., 160 x 115 mm, bound in publisher’s tan printed wrappers. Paris: G.L.M., 1939.

PRASSINOS, Gisèle.  Sondue.  [40] pp.  Small 8vo., 160 x 115 mm, bound in publisher’s tan printed wrappers. Paris: G.L.M., 1939.

KAFKA, Franz.  le chasseur Gracchus.  Translated by Henri Parisot.  [24] pp.  Small 8vo., 160 x 115 mm, bound in publisher’s tan printed wrappers. Paris: G.L.M., 1939.  All preserved in the original matching paper chemise with a red printed label.  In a new blue cloth chemise and matching slipcase.

Each is one of 500 copies on vélin blanc from a total edition of 515.  A complete set of the G.L.M. publication “Bien Nouveaux” edited by Henri Parisot.  Most notable is Duchamp’s collection of puns, anagrams, sly double-entendres and cryptic formulations (i.e. Modified Printed Readymades), with the appropriately loaded titled Rrose Selavy.  A fine set of these fragile publications, complete with the publisher’s paper chemise.
