Young Cherry Trees Secured Against Hares. By Andre Bréton. [55]. Illustrated with two line drawings by Arshile Gorky. Tall 8vo., 233 x 155 mm, bound in publisher’s illustrated boards and dust-jacket designed by Duchamp. New York: View Editions, 1946.
First Edition one of 1000 copies. A very fine copy of this collection of Bréton’s poetry in French with English translations by Edouard Roditi on the facing page. Includes Arshile Gorky’s only book illustrations. The headline here, of course, is Duchamp’s playful cover featuring a die cut dust jacket where Bréton’s face replaces that of Lady Liberty.
Schwarz, No. 520.
