Gradostroitel’stvo v SSHA.  [Urban Construction in the USA]. 196, [4] pp.  Illustrated throughout with architectural diagrams and black-&-white photographs with 6 fold-out colour maps.  Small folio, 270 x 220 mm, bound in publisher’s illustrated wrappers.  Moscow: Otd. nauchno-tekhnicheskoi informatsii pri NII teorii, istorii i perspektivnykh problem sovetskoi arkhitektury, 1965 [printed in 1966].

A rare moment of ‘cooperation’ between the United States and the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War in the form of an ideological evaluation of contemporary American architecture.  Commissioned by the Central Research and Design Institute for Urban Construction, a delegation of Soviet architects traveled to the USA on March 7–28, 1965 to observe urban construction in New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Detroit.  The resulting book is an elaborate and attractive publication with colourful maps and a profusion of photographs.

Limited to 1500 copies for internal use only, it is a rare book with OCLC failing to locate a copy.  Some wear to the spine and general minor wear, overall very good.
